Muhssia King, 22, was fatally shot in Haverstraw, New York, on the evening of September 9, 2025. He had just returned home from work and was sitting in the driver’s seat of his car on Clove Avenue shortly after 8:30 p.m., reportedly sending a text message, when multiple assailants approached and fired several rounds. King was struck multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene.
Neighbors initially mistook the gunfire for fireworks; one witness heard a woman scream, and another described hearing King’s cries of pain. Shortly after the shooting, two men dressed in black were seen running through backyards toward Main Street. One witness estimated one man to be about six feet tall and said the other had frizzy hair visible under a sweatshirt hood. Investigators canvassed the area the next day, using drones and metal detectors, but had not announced a motive or identified suspects.
King, known to family and friends as Bean, played defensive back for North Rockland High School and some college football, enjoyed dancing, and was considering a career in sports medicine. His father, who was driving a semi-truck out of state when notified, has appealed to the community for help. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Haverstraw Police Department Detective Division.
Did anyone in the Clove Avenue or Main Street area see anything the night of September 9 that could help investigators?
