Elijah Hughes, 20, was shot and killed in the early morning of August 3, 2025, at a south Fargo apartment complex in the 4700 block of 16th Avenue South. Officers arrived about 2:26 a.m. and found Hughes with mortal gunshot wounds. A native of Montgomery, Alabama, he was living in West Fargo at the time.
The killing was the second of two fatal shootings in Fargo within about a half hour, incidents police said were linked to an ongoing feud between two groups. The earlier downtown shooting also left another young man dead and two people injured. Investigators believed two different people were involved in the separate but related homicides.
In the days after Hughes’s death, police identified 20-year-old C’Aundre Douglas, who had no permanent address, as a suspect in Hughes’s killing. Douglas was located in Jamestown and arrested after a brief foot chase on August 5, 2025. Evidence from the scene and video showing a car tied to Douglas traveling from downtown toward the south Fargo scene were reported to connect him to the crime. Douglas was announced to face a murder charge in Hughes’s death.
Anyone with information about Elijah Hughes, his movements that night, or the shootings in early August is asked to come forward.
