On Monday, June 9, 2025, 31-year-old Yasean J. McQueen was fatally shot at Pulaski Park in Elmira, New York. The shooting occurred at approximately 8:00 p.m. and was one of two separate firearm incidents that night; police say the two scenes happened within about 15 minutes of each other and together left five people wounded. McQueen was the only person killed; the other four victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were expected to recover.
Elmira Police have described the two shootings as isolated and not connected. Investigators identified 22-year-old Jayzell McCoy as a suspect in the second shooting on the 900 block of Oak Street near Maxwell Place; McCoy was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon while on New York State Parole for a prior weapons conviction, and authorities said additional charges could follow.
Anyone with information about McQueen’s death is asked to contact the Elmira Police at 607-737-5626 or leave an anonymous tip at 607-271-HALT. Did anyone see or hear anything in Pulaski Park that evening that could help the investigation?
