A confrontation at a residence near Kennedy Street and North Miami Avenue in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, on September 8, 2025, left 37-year-old Chadwick Duan Thompson dead from a gunshot wound. First responders found Thompson mortally wounded; despite life-saving efforts he was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators observed signs of a struggle, indicating a physical altercation occurred before the fatal shot.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation took over the inquiry and reported the shooting followed a dispute between Thompson and another adult male. That man was located and interviewed; authorities said there were no suspects at large and no arrests had been made as the precise sequence of events remained under investigation. Thompson, known as Chad, was born September 21, 1987, in Okmulgee, graduated from Okmulgee High School, and was a father to seven children. Funeral services were held September 20, 2025, at St. Matthew’s Missionary Baptist Church, with burial at Vernon Cemetery.
