JW Bode, a 72-year-old public safety officer in Enid, Oklahoma, was shot after confronting an armed suspect who had opened fire at a hospital emergency entrance late on the night of August 17. Officers had responded to a domestic disturbance earlier that night; the suspect’s vehicle was located at Integris Health Enid Hospital around 11 p.m., and the man, later identified as 46-year-old Dedrick Bloss, fired on officers before entering the hospital.
Bode, described as a veteran, retired probation and parole officer and grandfather, encountered the suspect inside the hospital and was struck by gunfire. He died of his injuries on August 18. Responding officers engaged the shooter inside the facility; the shooter was shot and killed at the scene. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation was assigned to the case.
The community held a funeral service attended by the Enid Police Department Honor Guard. Does anyone have information about Bode’s actions that night or about witnesses who were at the hospital?
