Jake M. Young, 41, was found shot and pronounced dead inside his home on the 1600 block of St. Elmo Avenue NE in Canton, Ohio, on September 2, 2025. Responding officers discovered him on the floor that evening; the Stark County Coroner’s Office recorded the time of death as 6:25 p.m. A news release from the police chief described an apparent gunshot wound and investigators treated the case as a homicide while awaiting the coroner’s final ruling on cause and manner of death.

Neighbors said someone noticed the victim lying on the floor and a female neighbor called 911 just before 6 p.m. Reports said scene details suggested a violent entry: a person described as a friend who came to check on the victim told police the back door looked kicked in and the doorbell camera had been ripped off. That individual was taken downtown for an interview.

No arrests had been announced and no suspect was publicly identified as of the latest reports. Anyone with information about what happened that evening is asked to contact detectives or submit tips through local channels.
