Sabrina Richards, 54, of Lillington, North Carolina, was shot and killed inside her family’s home on Kentucky Derby Lane in the Trotter Ridge neighborhood on August 12, 2025. Deputies were dispatched at about 5:18 p.m. and found Sabrina and her husband, Danny Richards, 57, deceased; Danny’s mother, Clara Richards, 74, was transported to a hospital and later died. A 10-year-old in the home called 911 to report multiple family members had been shot.

Law enforcement reported that a 15-year-old family member fled the residence, was located in nearby woods and taken into custody. The sheriff’s office later charged the 15-year-old with multiple counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of Danny, Sabrina and Clara. Coverage noted the killings occurred during a gathering marking Sabrina Richards’ birthday and that funeral services and community memorials followed.
