A shooting in a convenience store parking lot in the 700 block of NC-45 North left 25-year-old Tahj Malik Bazemore dead on August 5, 2025. Two other Merry Hill residents, 19-year-old Jahquavion Carter and 20-year-old Ahmarion Thompson, were wounded and airlifted for treatment. Deputies described the scene as contained when they arrived and confirmed Bazemore had died of his injuries.

Investigators used store surveillance footage and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation assisted the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office as detectives worked through evidence and leads. An obituary identified the victim as Tahj GEE Malik Bazemore, born December 21, 1999; services were announced for August 16, 2025. On September 5, 2025, a 25-year-old Roxobel man, Nasir A’mire Brown, surrendered on a charge of felony solicitation to commit murder for allegedly using social media to target survivors, but no one had been charged in Bazemore’s homicide.

Who in the Merry Hill area might have seen the shooting or the vehicles and people in the parking lot that evening?
