Bertha Gonzalez Brigara, 46, left her home in Mexico on October 14, 2011, intending to cross into the United States. On October 16 she called her family from Altar, Sonora, saying she planned to cross the border the next day, October 17. That was the last time anyone heard from her. Her last known location was in the vicinity of Altar, in Pima County, Arizona.
When last seen she wore blue distressed jeans, a camouflage vest, and pink and black Nike tennis shoes. She carried a medium-sized pink and black canvas backpack containing personal items including a red or brown leather wallet, black sunglasses, and childhood photographs of her children. She wore two gold pieces of jewelry and one silver piece. Identifying features include pierced ears, a small green tattoo on her left foot, a scar on her back, a cesarean scar, and a black mole on her right cheekbone; her hair was described as reddish or blondish.
A report was filed with the Pima County Medical Examiner’s Office on November 4, 2011, but no further communications from Bertha followed the October 16 call. If anyone knew Bertha, saw her in mid-October 2011, or has information about movements near Altar or Pima County around October 17, please come forward with what you know.
