A double homicide on Father’s Day left a Henderson neighborhood reeling. On Sunday, June 15, 2025, Joseph Jeffreys Jr., 26, and his mother, Teresa Davis, 63, were found with gunshot wounds on Maple Street near South William Street and were pronounced dead at the scene. Police were called just after 6:45 p.m.
Investigators named a suspect hours later and began a manhunt that continued into the next morning. By Monday, June 16, 2025, authorities announced that 41-year-old Michael Sharron Wright had been taken into custody and booked without bond at the Granville County Detention Center.
Local accounts remembered Joseph Jeffreys Jr. as a son and a father whose life ended abruptly in that confrontation. Records and news reports noted Wright had previously pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in 2010 and was released from prison in January 2024. What details about the argument and motive remain unclear to investigators and the community?
