On the evening of October 27, 2007, 19-year-old Rowan University sophomore Donald Farrell III was walking with friends near the Triad Apartments in Glassboro, New Jersey, during homecoming weekend. Farrell paused outside the Xpress Food Mart while his friends went ahead; he was then approached by a group of four or five young Black men who asked for directions. The encounter quickly turned violent when one or two members of that group began punching and kicking Farrell, stole his wallet, and fled. Farrell was resuscitated twice by paramedics en route to Cooper University Hospital but died the next day from a ruptured artery in his neck.

Investigators recovered surveillance footage from the convenience store that captured a person of interest known by the nickname Smoke wearing a distinctive red and gray Coogi Heritage hoodie. The hoodie was traced to a limited number of stores in New Jersey and New York. A potential lead involving a woman who was reportedly given his phone number on a lottery ticket was lost after she discarded the ticket. Despite ongoing inquiries, public appeals, digital billboards, student reporting, and a reward for information, no suspects have been publicly identified or arrested.

Did anyone see Donald or the men near the Triad Apartments or Xpress Food Mart that night, or does anyone recognize the person in the red and gray Coogi Heritage hoodie?
