On the afternoon of Friday, August 22, 2025, gunfire erupted on the 200 block of Roosevelt Parkway in Jackson, Tennessee. Officers arriving just after 1:30 p.m. found 22-year-old Sherman Mays with critical gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital and later died from his injuries.
Investigators concluded the shooting was a targeted attack rather than a random act. Detectives focused on a single suspect and by Monday, August 25 had located 19-year-old Michael Hunt and taken him into custody on unrelated charges while building the case in Mays’ death. On Tuesday, August 26 the Jackson Police Department announced Hunt had been charged with second-degree murder; his arraignment was scheduled for Wednesday, August 27 in Jackson City Court. No motive has been released and the investigation remains ongoing.
If anyone witnessed the shooting on Roosevelt Parkway or has information about Sherman Mays or the events that led to his death, please share what is known.
