Alfred Wanderlingh III, 65, was fatally shot inside an apartment at the Copper Point Apartment Complex in Knoxville on Tuesday morning, August 12, 2025. Officers arrived about 9:33 a.m. and found Wanderlingh with a gunshot wound; he was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center and later pronounced dead.
Police allege the shooting followed a violent domestic dispute involving 46-year-old Timothy Adam Lee and his wife. According to the wife’s account, Lee accused her of an affair and assaulted her with a golf club and by choking her. Wanderlingh entered the apartment during the altercation; investigators say Lee then struck Wanderlingh with his fists, retrieved a handgun, pointed it at Wanderlingh and fired. The wife reported Lee also pointed the gun at her, seized her phone when she tried to call 911, and she escaped to a neighbor who called for help.
Lee was arrested after fleeing the scene in Wanderlingh’s truck; law enforcement located and apprehended him at a Walmart in Maryville after the truck was tracked by license plate recognition. He has been charged with first-degree murder, aggravated domestic assault, and interference with emergency calls. Wanderlingh had been a witness in a prior assault case involving Lee at a vape shop where both Wanderlingh and Lee’s wife worked. Does anyone have information about Wanderlingh’s movements that morning or about the prior incident at the vape shop?
