Luis Fernando Carranza, 24, of Denton, Texas, was fatally shot in the early morning hours of Sunday, September 28, 2025, during a confrontation in the parking lot of a QuikTrip in the 300 block of West Eagle Drive. A 12:58 a.m. 911 call reported a fight and then gunfire; officers found Carranza with a gunshot wound and he later died at a hospital. The medical examiner listed the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the chest.

Investigators say the encounter began with an argument over right-of-way. Police allege Carranza and a friend had no prior relationship with two people later identified as suspects, Alfred Jackson Jr. of Pattison, Mississippi, and Olivia Guster of Port Gibson, Mississippi. Court-document reporting based on surveillance footage described Jackson knocking Carranza to the ground with a shovel before shooting him in the chest. Witnesses led police to a vehicle; Jackson fled during a traffic stop but was caught and initially arrested for evading, while Guster was detained in the vehicle.

Detectives obtained warrants accusing Jackson of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and a murder warrant for Guster. Jail records listed Jackson’s total bond at $2.11 million and Guster’s bond at $1 million.
