On the evening of September 18, 2025, 23-year-old Mason Kael Snowball of West Valley City was found dead in his car after it went over a curb in a church parking lot near Jackson Street and La Salle Drive in Midvale. First responders initially treated the scene as a single-vehicle crash, but investigators discovered a gunshot wound after noticing a small hole in Snowball’s shirt sleeve, and the incident was reclassified as a homicide.

Witnesses reported hearing a pop and then seeing Snowball’s car speed through the parking lot without headlights. Surveillance footage shows two people fleeing the scene immediately after the sound. Detectives say the killing grew out of an alleged plan to rob Snowball of marijuana that had been arranged through social media, and investigators say evidence links the suspects to the same gang.

Arrests followed: a 14-year-old male was taken into custody on September 19, and 21-year-old Christiano Antonio Madison was later identified from video and an Instagram post and charged with murder and aggravated robbery. Police say four people were allegedly involved, including a 15-year-old and a 13-year-old who is believed to have arranged the meeting with Snowball.

Did anyone in Midvale or West Valley City see activity in that church parking lot around 8 p.m. on September 18 that could help investigators?
