Jeremy Smith, 37, of Timpson, Texas, was shot during a confrontation at a truck stop in Tenaha on the night of Wednesday, September 24, 2025. Around 8:30 p.m. he had parked a black Lexus near the diesel pumps at the intersection of U.S. Highways 59 and 96 when another vehicle pulled alongside. Authorities say a passenger struck Smith through the driver’s-side window; Smith exited, moved toward his trunk and attempted to retrieve what officials described as an AR-15–style rifle.
At that moment one of the men from the other car allegedly opened fire. First responders, including Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, took Smith from the scene for emergency treatment of life-threatening injuries. Investigators soon arrested two men from Center, Texas — Jesus Flores, 28, and Jorge Vazquez, 23 — and each was booked into the Shelby County Jail on a first-degree murder charge. Local obituary notices identify the victim as Jeremy Jereaud Smith, born September 27, 1987, and say services were scheduled the following week in Center.
Did anyone at the truck stop or nearby that night see the two vehicles meet at the pumps or the confrontation unfold?
