On May 31, 2025, a shooting in Columbia, Tennessee, killed 51-year-old Stacie Wright and her neighbor, 46-year-old John Bidle. Authorities say the violence began when 46-year-old neighbor Byron Childers allegedly confronted Bidle in his yard and fatally shot him. When Wright opened her door after hearing the commotion, Childers is accused of shooting and killing her. A third person, a man driving an ice cream truck, was also shot and survived with non-life-threatening injuries.

Childers was taken into custody at the scene and is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder. During a preliminary hearing, Childers was reported to have called Bidle a demon from hell; a court-ordered mental health evaluation was ordered and Childers remains jailed without bond.

Wright worked as a talent acquisition specialist at Ultium Cells and volunteered with the Boys and Girls Club of South Central Tennessee. She and her husband, Sean Wright, had recently marked their 20th wedding anniversary and she is survived by him and two children. Does anyone in the Columbia area have information about that day or knew Stacie and her family?
