DaShayla Jones, 21, was fatally shot just after midnight on September 7, 2025, outside Malibu Jack’s, an indoor theme park off the 8600 block of Airport Freeway in North Richland Hills. Police say a fight that began inside the venue spilled into the parking lot where gunfire erupted. Two off-duty North Richland Hills officers working security ran to the scene; one returned fire and the other applied a tourniquet to a wounded 23-year-old man who survived. Jones was pronounced dead at the scene; the Tarrant County Medical Examiner listed her date of death as September 7, 2025.
Her 4-year-old son was among children present that night and was unharmed but witnessed the chaos. Investigators initially detained three 18-year-olds; by late Sunday morning two were said not to be involved and were held only on unrelated class C charges. The third, an 18-year-old from Fort Worth, was held in connection with the killing and was expected to see a judge on Monday, September 8. Police reported recovering what they believe to be the murder weapon, and authorities later identified the suspect as 18-year-old Tychriston Reed, who faced multiple charges including murder and reckless endangerment of a child.
Family and friends remembered Jones as a devoted mother and a nursing-home worker whose first priority was caring for her young son. Did anyone who was at Malibu Jack’s that night see what happened in the parking lot or have information that could help investigators?
