On the evening of August 4, 2025, 55-year-old Naul Mota Arellano of Sunnyside went into a rural orchard near Maple Grove Road and Chaffee Road after reports of a suspicious man. He rode an ATV into the trees and did not return; witnesses searching the area found him fatally wounded. The Yakima County Coroner and an autopsy determined he died of multiple gunshot wounds, and investigators say his death is tied to the suspicious person seen in the orchard.
Within two days detectives identified 29-year-old Miguel Angel Granados-Vargas of Sunnyside as the person sought in connection with the killing, and a judge signed an arrest warrant charging him with second-degree murder. Multiple agencies joined the search; Granados-Vargas was reported last seen near State Routes 241 and 24, south of the Grant–Yakima county line, and was considered armed and dangerous. No arrest has been announced.
Did anyone in the Sunnyside or Grant County area see suspicious activity near Maple Grove Road and Chaffee Road on August 4?
