Jessica Mateo Baldoz was killed in Chesapeake, Virginia, on August 6, 2025, in an act of domestic violence. She was 27 and is described as a daughter, friend, and mother whose life ended that Wednesday night after police responding to a domestic violence call heard her screaming for help. Officers trying to force entry were met with gunfire through the door; two officers were injured. Inside the residence they found Jessica with gunshot wounds; she was taken to a hospital and died of her injuries.

The suspect was identified as 39-year-old Shaun M. Boker, described as her long-time boyfriend. Court records show Jessica had filed three separate domestic assault complaints against him in the months before her death, including allegations that he shoved, hit, and forcefully held her. After the shooting, Boker fled and there was an extended standoff with police at a location in Portsmouth; he was later taken into custody and transported to a hospital with superficial cuts to his arm.
