On the night of August 2, 2025, 25-year-old Ty’el Daveon Jones was shot and killed outside his family home in the Cedar Grove area of Lawrenceville. Brunswick County deputies responded around 11 p.m. and found Jones with a gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators report the shooting followed a verbal encounter earlier that evening. Jones and another person argued at a different location before both went to the Jones family residence, where the dispute became physical and escalated into a shootout involving multiple firearms. Multiple cartridge casings were recovered at the scene.

Authorities identified 54-year-old Tristan Gautier Bell of Lawrenceville as a person involved in the shooting. A search warrant was executed at Bell’s residence and he was taken into custody; he has been charged with murder and is being held without bond. Prosecutors say additional charges could be possible and the investigation is ongoing.
