On July 22, 2025, Ridgeway, Virginia authorities found 68-year-old William Leroy Morey dead on Meeks Road with multiple gunshot wounds after responding to a report of a man lying in the road. Investigators determined Morey had gone to a residence to check on the welfare of 22-year-old Mandy Coleman. Deputies then found Coleman inside the home with a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
Mandy’s husband, Joshua Corbett Coleman, was identified early as the suspect. A coordinated search sought two young children who were missing from the home; a few hours later a Henry County deputy stopped Coleman’s vehicle, took him into custody without incident, and located the children unharmed in the car. Coleman was armed with a handgun and an AR-15 rifle when arrested.
A criminal complaint says Coleman admitted to shooting his wife after a heated argument in which he accused her of infidelity, then returned later to his own home and shot Morey multiple times after initially being unable to find him. Coleman faces two counts of first-degree murder, firearm charges, a shooting-from-a-vehicle count, and two counts of child abuse and neglect and is being held without bond. William Morey was not related to Joshua or Mandy Coleman.
