Monica Rodriguez, 24, of Newport News, was shot and killed on June 10, 2025, in Hampton, Virginia. Both victims sustained life-threatening gunshot wounds; Rodriguez was transported to a local hospital and later pronounced dead. The condition of the male companion has not been publicly updated.

The Hampton Police Division Major Crimes Unit investigated and identified a suspect. On June 24, 2025, authorities arrested 25-year-old Eric Fleet of Newport News. Fleet was charged with one count of murder in connection with Rodriguez’s death, plus counts of aggravated malicious wounding, possession of a firearm by a felon, reckless handling of a firearm, willful discharge of a firearm in public, and two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony. The investigation is ongoing.
