Scott Lee Randall, a 45-year-old White man from the Dillwyn area, was critically wounded in a shooting on the afternoon of Monday, May 12, 2025. Deputies responding shortly before 1 p.m. found a pickup truck that had left the road and crashed into the woods on the 2300 block of Pattie Road. Randall had suffered a single gunshot wound to the head and was airlifted to a hospital in life-threatening condition.
Randall remained on life support for a week and died after being removed from life support on Monday, May 19, 2025. Investigators arrested 41-year-old Vincent Rose of Nelson County soon after the incident; Rose was initially charged with aggravated malicious wounding, shooting into an occupied vehicle and multiple firearms offenses, and held without bond. After Randall’s death, the investigation was reclassified as a homicide and the charge against Rose was upgraded to first-degree murder.
The Buckingham County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information about the circumstances of the shooting to come forward.
