Samuel Mason, 18, of Pflugerville, was killed on July 12, 2025, when a mid-day meeting at the Bellwood Apartments on South A.W. Grimes Boulevard in Round Rock turned into a robbery and an exchange of gunfire. The encounter began as an arranged sale of a firearm between two groups; around 1 p.m. shots were fired, leaving Mason and 17-year-old Brian Kinney of Austin dead at the scene and four people wounded, two of whom were taken to local hospitals.

Investigators described shell casings near vehicles and witnesses reporting a quick deal that became chaotic. Authorities said detectives were examining the roles of all parties involved and urged anyone with information to contact investigators; as of the city’s July 14 update no arrests or public suspect identifications had been announced. Samuel Mason was reported as an 18-year-old Black male in victim listings compiled after the incident.
