Jamie Windom, 16, was shot the evening of Tuesday, June 17, 2025, in the 100 block of Percy Simond Street near the Pinewood Park Apartments in Lufkin. He was first taken to Woodland Heights Medical Center and then flown to a Houston hospital, where he died early Thursday morning. Police say gunfire struck his legs and that those injuries proved fatal after transfer for advanced care.

Officers arrested 26-year-old Julious Jamal Griffin the night of the shooting; he was found near the Brookshire Brothers warehouse. Griffin initially faced aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful carrying of a weapon. After Windom died, the investigation was upgraded to murder. An autopsy reportedly concluded the gunshot wounds to the legs caused the death, and surveillance footage investigators reviewed showed Griffin pursuing a fleeing boy with a rifle and firing as the teen ran, contradicting Griffin’s claim that he fired in self-defense after being robbed at gunpoint.

Authorities described the investigation as active and ongoing while Griffin remained in the Angelina County Jail. Does anyone who was near Pinewood Park Apartments on the evening of June 17 have information that could help investigators?
