Damian Bazan, 20, was shot to death on May 18, 2025, in rural Donna, Texas. Deputies were dispatched at about 3:08 p.m. to the 13000 block of Hermosa Vida Drive, where they found the male victim. An autopsy ruled the death a homicide from a gunshot wound to the head. Funeral arrangements were handled by Family Funeral Home of Edinburg.

Within a day authorities named and arrested a suspect. The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office says 21-year-old Miriam Valdez, identified as the victim’s girlfriend, told investigators she believed the handgun was unloaded, aimed it at the victim and pulled the trigger. She was charged with manslaughter and booked into the county detention center; officials said she would be given bond the following afternoon. Spanish-language reports stated bond was later set at $1,000,000.
