Eddie Verdugo was 48 and Hispanic when he and Joyleen Chavez were shot inside a Los Lunas residence at 27 Dean Lane on April 16, 2004. Deputies found both victims critically wounded; emergency crews transported them to the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque, and investigators determined the gunshot injuries were fatal. Accounts differ on the precise timing of each death, but April 16, 2004, remains the central date associated with the double homicide.

Neighbors reportedly told investigators they had not seen or heard anything unusual around the time of the shootings, and detectives believed the attack occurred some time before deputies entered the home.

The case was later reviewed by the New Mexico State Police Cold Case Unit, which revisited reports, evidence, and interviews and considered newer forensic testing, but both deaths remain cold. No publicly identified suspect has been named; authorities continue to seek information about what happened at the Dean Lane residence or who was responsible.

Did anyone in the area at the time notice anything that might help resolve this double homicide?
