A dispute between acquaintances in Smiths Station, Alabama, turned fatal on the evening of Sunday, October 19, 2025. Anthony Levi Hodge, 34, was shot in the chest outside his residence at Sawyers Mobile Home Park on Lee Road 246 at about 6:30 p.m. He was taken by ambulance to Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead at 7:35 p.m. The Lee County Coroner’s Office confirmed the cause of death and arranged a postmortem examination at the Alabama Department of Forensic Science in Montgomery.

Lee County Sheriff’s deputies located and arrested 20-year-old Jeremy Chandler Wiggins in a white pickup at Terry’s Grocery a short time after the shooting. Investigators recovered the handgun believed to have been used. Wiggins was booked into the Lee County Jail on one count of murder and is being held without bond pending an Aniah’s Law hearing. Families of the two men were reportedly known to each other.
