On a quiet Sunday morning, February 19, 1995, 56-year-old Reyes Valenzuela was found dead in his home in Socorro, New Mexico, the victim of a fatal gunshot wound. He was a Hispanic man known locally as a skilled carpenter and master brick mason, working under contract with the City of Socorro to refurbish the old high school into city offices and court space. Friends and family remembered him as very polite and sociable.

The City Police Chief, Johnny Trujillo, said the crime was not believed to be drug-related, and the Office of the Medical Investigator found no drugs in Valenzuela’s system. Despite a lengthy investigation, law enforcement could not determine a motive or identify viable suspects, and the case eventually went cold. The New Mexico State Police have kept the file active in hopes that future developments or forensic advances might produce new leads.

Does anyone in Socorro or the surrounding area have information about Reyes Valenzuela or the days leading up to February 19, 1995?
