Luke Alvarez, 35, a Hispanic man from South Valley, New Mexico, was shot late Monday morning on October 13, 2025, near Bridge Boulevard and La Vega SW in southwest Albuquerque. Deputies found him with at least one gunshot wound; he was taken to the University of New Mexico Hospital in critical condition and later died of his injuries. A truck had crashed near a ditch just west of the river at the scene, and evidence markers were clustered around it as investigators documented the area and interviewed witnesses.

Detectives with the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office say they believe the killing stemmed from a road rage encounter that escalated into gunfire on the busy corridor. Investigators transferred the case to homicide detectives and asked nearby businesses and motorists for tips or footage; they have not identified a suspect vehicle or publicly confirmed whether Alvarez was armed. No arrests have been announced. If anyone witnessed the shooting or has dashcam or surveillance footage from Bridge Boulevard and La Vega SW that morning, please share it with investigators.
