Jesse Edward Murueta Cervantes, 35, was shot and killed late the night of October 11, 2025, at a residence on the 28300 block of Old Highway 58 near Barstow. Deputies arrived about 11:55 p.m., found him in the backyard with a gunshot wound, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives from the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division took over the investigation.

Investigators say an Apple Valley man, Andrew Limon, 31, went to the home of a former girlfriend and that the shooting erupted in the backyard. After the gunfire Limon fled; deputies later located him in Apple Valley in the driver’s seat of a vehicle with a gunshot wound authorities believe was sustained in the same incident. He was transported to a hospital and, once medically cleared, was to be booked on a murder charge under Penal Code 187. Authorities identified the victim as Jesse Edward Murueta Cervantes of Ontario.
