A late-night shooting in the Two Thirteen Bar & Grill parking lot on Saw Mill Road in West Haven left one man dead and another wounded on October 5, 2025. Jose Miguel Avila, 41, of New Haven, sustained three gunshot wounds and was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he later died. A second victim was also hospitalized and listed in stable condition.

West Haven police secured the scene, collected shell casings, sought surveillance footage and learned that one victim had been moved from the scene before officers arrived. Authorities later identified Avila and appealed for anyone with information or video to come forward; no arrests or suspect identifications have been announced.

Avila was remembered by family as a devoted father of three, a fiancé, and a gentle, generous man who worked for a property investment company and formerly for New Haven public works. Does anyone have information or footage from the Two Thirteen Bar & Grill area that could help investigators?
