Leonard Thomas, a 48-year-old Black man, was shot in the pre-dawn hours of Monday, October 27, 2025, after an argument at Hawkins Park in Groesbeck, Texas. Officers responded just after 4 a.m. to the area near the 100 block of South Waco Street and the 400 block of West State Street and found Thomas suffering from gunshot wounds inside the park. He was taken to Limestone Medical Center, where Precinct One Justice of the Peace Marcus Hanna pronounced him dead.
Investigators say a second person was involved in a dispute with Thomas immediately before the gunfire and fled on foot before police arrived. Groesbeck police opened a homicide investigation and requested assistance from the Texas Rangers and the Mart Police Department while canvassing the area and seeking witnesses. Authorities had publicly identified the victim and confirmed the date and location; no arrests had been announced and the suspect remained at large.
If anyone was in or near Hawkins Park on October 27 and saw the argument or someone running from the scene, please share what was seen with investigators.
