Three teenagers were shot during a daytime attack on Friday, October 24, 2025, in the 1000 block of Hackberry Street in Nacogdoches, Texas. Sixteen-year-old Emilio Perez was later identified as one of the victims; family members helped confirm his identity after authorities initially withheld names pending notification. Police got 911 calls about gunfire at about 10:22 a.m.; callers reported someone running from the scene and another person lying in the street near a vehicle when officers arrived.

Two other victims were named as Dequavious LeCharles Brooks, 17, and Edward Alejandro Rivera, 18. Detectives quickly focused on a 17-year-old suspect, Hector Cuarenta of Nacogdoches, and on the day of the shooting obtained a warrant charging him with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon related to the Hackberry Street attack. Late on Sunday, October 26, Cuarenta surrendered and was taken to the Nacogdoches Law Enforcement Center. Officials described the violence as targeted and isolated as the investigation continued.
