Seventeen-year-old James Sutton was fatally shot on November 18, 2025, near the Sonic Drive-In on Highway 82 East in Greenville, Mississippi. The shooting occurred around 8 p.m.; a female teenager with him was critically injured and initially taken to Delta Health before being airlifted to a higher-level facility. Emergency responders found both victims with serious gunshot wounds, and Sutton was pronounced dead shortly after police arrived.

Witnesses said shots came from a dark-colored pickup truck that sped away eastbound from the restaurant parking lot. Investigators searched the area for shell casings and sought surveillance footage from nearby businesses for evidence of the vehicle or its occupants. As of late November 2025, no arrests have been announced and no motive has been made public.

Anyone who was in the Highway 82 East area that evening or who has information about the dark-colored pickup truck is asked to contact the Greenville Police Department.
