Lawrence Holdridge Boyd IV was 32 when he was found fatally shot in the Larry C. Hardy Parking Deck on East State Street in Traverse City. He was working on duty as an employee of the city’s Parking Services when investigators say he was killed at about 9:30 p.m. on the night of Saturday, November 15, 2025; his body was discovered the next morning at approximately 7:48 a.m. Loved ones remembered Boyd as kindhearted, a Ferris State University criminal justice graduate who enjoyed kayaking, mountain biking, and hiking, and who was living on Old Mission Peninsula while caring for his mother, Kristina Hooper. He was the partner of Amanda Evans.
Police linked the killing to two teenagers encountered that same night while investigating car break-ins. Officers say 17-year-old Eugene Thompson allegedly fired a stolen handgun at them during the pursuit; one round struck an officer’s pant leg. Thompson and 18-year-old Hunter Vanderwall were taken into custody and arraigned on November 18, 2025; both pleaded not guilty and were held without bond. The case later expanded to include others charged in connection with the events, including accusations that a juvenile provided the gun used in the homicide.
Who in Traverse City might have known Boyd’s movements or seen anything near the parking deck that night?
