Shaquille Guerin was a 35-year-old deputy with the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office, a veteran officer of more than eight years who served in uniform patrol and the detective bureau. Colleagues remembered him as a dedicated public servant, a husband and father of three, trained in specialized areas including assisting autistic children and adults, and previously recognized for life-saving and community work.
On the evening of Thursday, November 27, 2025, Jefferson Parish deputies responded shortly after 5:30 p.m. to reports of gunfire in the 30 block of Marigold Lane in Waggaman. Guerin was found lying in the street with at least one gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene after emergency care. Investigators focused on his brother, 32-year-old Darius Guerin of Marrero, who left the scene in a vehicle and was later located after a pursuit, taken into custody following a short foot chase and booked on a charge of second-degree murder; a firearm believed discarded during his flight was recovered.
Authorities say the motive and exact sequence of events leading to the shooting remain under investigation. Did anyone in the Waggaman area see activity on Marigold Lane that evening or know more about the relationship between the brothers?
