David E. Thompson, 69, of Port Charlotte, Florida, was killed on the night of November 23, 2025, while staying at a hunting cabin on Botsford Hollow Road near Fillmore in Allegany County, New York. Troopers from SP Amity responded around 10 p.m. for a reported disturbance and found David and his brother dead inside the rural camp.

State police say the three brothers had been sharing the cabin on a hunting trip. Investigators allege a verbal dispute escalated into a physical confrontation; during the incident 65-year-old Scot D. Thompson of Englewood, Florida, is accused of retrieving a rifle and shooting David and their brother Mark B. Thompson of Canterbury, Connecticut. Alcohol was reported to be a factor. After the shooting Scot Thompson fled in a brother’s vehicle, was located following a BOLO, taken into custody and charged with two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of criminal use of a firearm. Autopsies were scheduled at Strong Memorial Hospital.

Outside the investigative details, family accounts describe David and his wife Jane as recent Florida retirees who enjoyed outdoor life and were active in their faith community. Did anyone in the area know the Thompsons or have information about the events that night?
