On the afternoon of November 21, 2025, 22-year-old Babacar Mbengue was shot during an argument with a relative in downtown Silver Spring, Maryland, and later died at a local hospital. Officers and Fire Rescue responded to reports of a shooting around 2:07 p.m. and found Mbengue lying in the street with a gunshot wound to the chest; he was transported to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Investigators say the confrontation began inside a red Tesla, where Mbengue and the relative argued, then continued outside and became physical. Detectives identified 20-year-old Fallou Galass Fall of Laurel, Maryland, described as a relative, as the suspect. Officers located and stopped Fall a few hours later in Laurel; he was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder. Authorities have not identified additional suspects.
The killing, described by local and Senegalese diaspora outlets as sudden and personal, has prompted vigils and online memorials within the Senegalese community. Did anyone in the Silver Spring area see the red Tesla or the altercation near Richmond Avenue and Fenton Street that afternoon?
