Corporal Grade One Matthew Tyler Snook, known as Ty, was a 34-year-old Delaware State Police trooper and ten-year veteran who was killed in the line of duty on December 23, 2025. He was working an overtime assignment at the Division of Motor Vehicles facility on Hessler Boulevard near New Castle when a gunman entered about 2:00 p.m. and ambushed him from behind.

The shooter, identified as 44-year-old Rahman Rose of Wilmington, opened fire. Despite critical wounds, Corporal Snook pushed a civilian employee out of the line of fire, an action credited with saving that person’s life. The gunman continued firing, then remained inside and later exchanged gunfire with responding officers. A New Castle County police officer returned fire, striking Rose; both men were taken to a hospital and died of their wounds. Authorities reported no clear motive and said Rose had no apparent Delaware criminal record but had lived in other states. Corporal Snook is survived by his wife and their one-year-old daughter.
