A fatal shooting on the afternoon of Wednesday, December 17, 2025, left 24-year-old Kendall Tyshaun Merrick of Summerville dead in the parking lot of Kilnsea Village Apartments on Patron Place. A North Charleston police officer was flagged down just before 5:00 p.m.; the officer found Merrick with a gunshot wound and began life-saving measures. Dorchester County EMS provided advanced care but Merrick was pronounced dead at the scene around 5:20 p.m.

North Charleston detectives investigated the circumstances in the apartment complex parking area and identified a suspect. Twenty-one-year-old Julian Shane Issa of Summerville was arrested by detectives and charged with involuntary manslaughter; he was taken to the Dorchester County Jail to be booked. The investigation remains active with the North Charleston Police Department.
