Charles Wright Neill Tyree, 21, was shot and killed on or around December 2, 2025, after leaving a residence in Nocatee, Florida, to meet someone who had called him to the driveway. Friends and family described him as hardworking, connected to his DeSoto County roots, and fond of fishing, airboating and working on his customized truck. The shooting occurred days before his twenty-second birthday and prompted fundraisers and a visitation and service later in the month.

Investigators identified 21-year-old Joel Herrera Godinez as a suspect; authorities say Godinez was taken into custody and admitted to the killing while claiming he acted in self-defense. Detectives charged Godinez in the homicide and the case was underway. The two men had previously worked together, which mourners say made the death especially tragic.
