Koetay Leonidas Vitore Dreaming-Bear, an 18-year-old Oglala Lakota man from Pine Ridge, was fatally shot on November 29, 2025, in Oglala on the Oglala Sioux Reservation. He was described in his obituary as being survived by a large extended family including parents Harland Dreaming Bear and Candida Bagola, numerous siblings, aunts, uncles, grandparents and special great-grandparents. The shooting occurred on a Saturday night; the alleged shooter fled the scene and law enforcement widened the search beyond the reservation.

On Sunday, Rapid City police located and took a suspect into custody in Rapid City after the individual reportedly fled there following the shooting. Initial public statements did not release the suspect’s identity or the specific charges. Koetay was buried after traditional wake services at the Chase In Winter Residence and at Makasan Presbyterian Church Hall.

Who in the community might have information about Koetay, the events that night, or the person who fled to Rapid City?
