Barrie Woods was found dead on a cold afternoon, Sunday, February 23, 2014, near a railroad line that crosses Dewey Avenue in Buffalo, New York. Authorities responded to the scene behind St. Mary’s School for the Deaf on Main Street. An autopsy confirmed the 32-year-old Buffalo resident died of a gunshot wound, and his death was ruled a homicide.

Known to some as Yummy, Woods was a Black man whose killing came during a violent year for Buffalo; his death was one of 62 homicides recorded in the city in 2014, when most homicides involved firearms. The Buffalo Police Department’s homicide detectives have continued the investigation, but no suspects have been publicly identified and no arrests have been announced, leaving the case cold.
