Brianna N. Hawkins was 21 when she died from multiple gunshot wounds after a triple shooting at the Greens apartments on Clark Lane in Columbia, Missouri, on the evening of Sunday, January 4, 2026. The attack, about 9 p.m., left two other people with life-threatening injuries; one surviving victim was also stabbed.

Columbia Police identified 23-year-old James Lamont Caldwell Jr., also of Fulton, as the suspect and took him into custody. Boone County prosecutors charged him with second-degree murder in Hawkins’s death, plus two counts of first-degree assault and armed criminal action for injuries to the other victims. Court papers say neighbor video shows someone chasing and shooting at another person. Caldwell reportedly told police he had taken Xanax and had little memory, saying he woke up in the street with blood on his hands.

Caldwell is being held in the Boone County Jail without bond while the investigation continues. Police are asking residents with information or doorbell camera footage from that night to come forward. Did anyone in the Greens apartments area see or record anything around 9 p.m. on January 4?
