In the early hours of January 4, 2026, 29-year-old Cory Wilson Jr. was shot outside the Odd Fellows Bar on Locust Street in Dubuque, Iowa. A Dubuque police officer on routine patrol arrived to find a physical fight just before 1 a.m.; as the officer exited his vehicle, reports say 28-year-old Jaiondrick Lovely shot Wilson. Wilson was given emergency aid at the scene, taken to MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center, and was later pronounced dead.
The officer fired at Lovely, who ran into the bar and was found inside with a gunshot wound. Lovely was taken to Unity Point Finley Hospital and died there. The officer was not injured and has been placed on critical incident leave while the Iowa Attorney General’s Office and the Dubuque County Attorney’s Office review the shooting. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is handling the investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
The Dubuque Police Department is asking anyone with information about what led to the initial shooting of Wilson to come forward; did anyone see the confrontation outside the Odd Fellows Bar that night?
