A fatal shooting in downtown Chico on New Year’s Day claimed the life of 30-year-old Sean Allen of nearby Oroville. The early-morning attack occurred in the 300 block of Broadway shortly before 2 a.m., when multiple callers reported gunfire to the Chico Police Department. Officers found evidence of a shooting at the scene but learned Allen had already been taken by private vehicle to a local hospital, where he died later that morning.

The Chico Police Department opened a homicide investigation and described the event as an isolated incident, saying there is no ongoing threat. Allen was a father of three and is remembered by family and friends as a loving parent whose loss has deeply affected both Chico and his hometown of Oroville.
