William P. Kelly, 53, was shot to death in his Kutztown home on the evening of December 30, 2025. Police say a verbal argument in the West Walnut Street residence escalated and that Kelly suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head. Responding officers found him deceased in the dining room after a 911 call from a woman who identified herself as the shooter and as Kelly’s wife.

Kutztown Borough Police and Berks County detectives arrested 46-year-old Elizabeth L. McKenna. Investigators report she admitted taking a handgun from a safe on the second floor, returning to the first floor, and firing at close range after a heated argument during which she said Kelly was antagonizing her. A handgun was recovered at the scene. A 10-year-old child was in an upstairs bedroom during the shooting and was unharmed.

Family members have alleged a history of abuse. McKenna has been charged with first-degree murder, third-degree murder, and two counts of aggravated assault and was transported to the Berks County Courthouse for processing pending arraignment.
