On the evening of January 21, 2026, 34-year-old Chiquila Hairston was shot and killed on the 500 block of Carroll Street in Reidsville, North Carolina. Officers arrived about 9:40 p.m. after reports of a shooting; Rockingham County emergency medical personnel attempted life-saving measures but Hairston was pronounced dead at the scene. The Reidsville Police Department opened a homicide investigation.

By January 29, police said they had identified everyone who was present at the scene, but no names of suspects were released and no arrests were announced. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities ask anyone with information to come forward.
